New Art Works

finished: 2008.8.29 material: chalk, pastel model: Albert
I wasn't planning to use both chalk and pastel, but I'm quite satisfied with the result. It's the first time I try these two material together, and I actually took some risk since I wasn't sure about the effect, but fortunately the colors does bring life to the dull black-and-white painting.

Traveler Kitchen

http://www.tkitchen.com A very nice Greece style restaurant. I've learned that it is quite difficult to book, and we were lucky to get a seat because we came in the afternoon.

First Experience as an Intern

For the past one month, I'd been staying at the branch clinic on Wen-xin Road of the National Veterinary Hospital as an intern student. My school doesn't require us to have a period of internship until higher grade, but the vet we've known for years invited me to join them, saying that the experience there would help to expand what I've learned in the text books at school and also giving me a chance to see the environment that I may one day work in. So after having a small interview with the human resource manager, I chosed the one closest to my house and started my practice. The first person that greeted me was Mr. Luo, a doctor assistant who have trained many new assistants or interns like me, and since the doctors here work in shifts and there were different doctors every day, Mr. Luo would be the person that I see most and teach me most of the things besides medication.A huge rabbit named Lerler. He was staying here while his mom went on a vacation. Before she left, she left us a bag of grass especially for Lerler. We usually supply the pets with food and water, but you know these beloved animals can be very picky sometimes, so we usually suggest those owners with picky pets to bring their own foods in case they don't like the food we have and starved.

The first thing I learned was how to hold and stable the animal while the doctor was giving them shots, clipping their nails, cleaning their ears or any other kind of treatment so the animals wouldn't hurt themselves or the doctor. It could be dangerous, if the animal was not stable firm enough, for example when having a shot, it might struggle and get itself hurt and also hurt the doctor and the assistant if it turn around and bite whatever it can. It looks easy, but it is definitely not. Especially when the animal is tense and tries to escape whenever it can. The best tool besides our hands, I've learned, is towels, which can be covered over the nervous animal's head and covered their eyes to soothe them.

A poor angry cat waiting for the doctor to examine his skin. Mr. Luo said that the scariest animal he've ever seen is cat, which have two weapons: sharp claws and teeth. Cat is also an excellent escapee. Once escaped, it would take a lot effort to have it back inside the cage.
